Commit to Winthrop
You’ve been accepted to Winthrop and you’re ready to begin your journey, now what? There are a few steps you’ll need to take in order to secure your space. When you are certain that you will attend Winthrop, complete these steps to hold your place and prepare for your first semester.
Your Admit Portal contains important information about your next steps for enrolling at Winthrop. You should check your portal often to complete next steps, view important announcement and register for admitted student only events.
All incoming freshmen and transfer students must pay a $300 enrollment deposit through their Admit Portal using the Decision Reply form. The deposit covers your new student fee and housing application fee (if applicable). Any remaining balance will be applied to your first semester bill. If you enroll in the summer, your remaining balance will be applied to your fall bill.
The deposit is refundable until June 1 for students beginning in the Fall 2024 and January 1 for students beginning in the Spring 2025. Your enrollment fee must be paid before you can register for Orientation or apply for housing.
Prepare to be an Eagle
After you have officially committed to Winthrop by submitting the enrollment deposit, it’s time to prepare for your first semester. Please review and complete these items prior to attending Orientation.
Your Winthrop email serves as both your email address and your username to log in to Wingspan. To setup your account you’ll need your Winthrop ID (CWID) which can be found in your Admit Portal. Log in to your Admit Portal and follow the steps in the Wingspan/Winthrop Email Account Setup section.
Validate Your Account
After creating your new student account, wait 90 minutes and complete these steps:
- Visit mailbox.winthrop.edu
- When prompted, enter your username followed by @mailbox.winthrop.edu (e.g., doej2@mailbox.winthrop.edu). The “@mailbox” must always be entered when a Google page is displayed.
- Next, type your student email address without “mailbox.” (e.g.,doej2@winthrop.edu)
- Enter your password set during the account creation process
- More information required. Select “Next”
- Provide your mobile phone number and select whether you want to Receive a code by text or Call me. Select “Next”
- Type in the numbers that were texted or answer the call and follow the prompt. Then select “Next”
- Verification complete at this time. Select “Next”
- Select “Done”

After you setup your Wingspan/Winthrop email account, be sure to check your Winthrop email account regularly – some departments will only send messages to your Winthrop email account.
Students will be notified of their financial aid offer in April. You can view your financial aid offer in Wingspan once you are notified. After you have reviewed your aid offer, it is important that you either accept or decline the awards. Only aid that has been accepted will be posted on your semester bill. Check out the Financial Aid website for additional information.
Orientation is your first official experience as a Winthrop Eagle. At Orientation, you will be advised, register for courses and connect with future classmates. To register for Orientation, you must first pay your enrollment deposit. To register, log in to your Admit Portal and select the date that works best for you.
Your Winthrop ID card is your official photo identification card and is used for entry in your assigned residence hall, classroom buildings and access to your meal plan. Review the requirements before emailing your photo to IT from your Winthrop email account.
All students are required to satisfy immunization requirements by July 15 for fall enrollment or December 1 for spring enrollment. Students must create a Patient Portal account, complete the required forms, enter immunization dates and upload immunization document using the portal. The Winthrop Center for Student Wellness also offers options for student health insurance.
Accommodations are provided on a semester-by-semester basis and are provided only when requested.

Some majors require placement exams prior to attending Orientation. Students will receive an email with information about their required exams based on their current major. To update your major prior to attending Orientation, please email admissions@winthrop.edu .

An official final high school transcript is required of all entering freshmen students. Your transcript must be sent directly from your high school and include your graduation date, final GPA, and class rank (if applicable). Transcripts sent by students or parents will not be accepted.
An official college transcript is required of all students that took college or dual-enrollment course, even if credit was not earned or desired. Transcripts must be sent directly from the college or university. Dual-enrollment credit cannot be granted based on a high school transcript.
If you took Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge courses, you must request that your official scores be sent directly from the testing agency in order for credit to be awarded. These credits cannot be granted based on a high school or college transcript.
Students with transfer credits from another institution, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or dual-enrollment credit may review the evaluation of transfer credits in Wingspan . Please be sure that you request official college transcripts and/or AP/IB test scores be sent to our office to ensure that credit is awarded.
Plan to Soar
Now that you have selected your classes, it's time to make your final preparations for your first semester as an Eagle.
The housing application typically opens in February for fall and summer students. You will receive a notification when the application is open. To apply for housing use the Eaglesnest Housing link in Wingspan. A housing packet describing your residence hall options, academic success communities and meal plans will be mailed to you. This packet also contains the instructions for applying for housing.
All first- and second-year students are required to live on campus. Some students may be eligible for an exemption.
Students must submit their enrollment deposit in order to have their housing application processed and receive a housing assignment.
All Winthrop students are required to purchase a laptop. You may bring any laptop that meets the minimum specifications. You may elect to purchase one of the approved laptop configurations from Dell or Apple at a discounted rate. Find which approved configuration is best for your major.
All students are allowed bring a vehicle on campus; however, you must request a parking permit through the Winthrop Campus Police Department. Student permits are $100 for the year and are charged to the students account.
Billing statements are sent via email and are available in Wingspan. A Winthrop Payment Plan is also available. For information about your bill or the payment plan, please call Student Financial Services at 803/323-2165 or email sfs@winthrop.edu.
Be sure to review this information before arriving on campus. Additional information about move-in day, including residence hall openings and check-in procedures, will be shared directly from the Office of Residence Life.
Part of the college experience is getting involved in what interests you. Winthrop offers over 50 clubs and organizations, so it’s easy to get involved. There are also over 30 intramural and club sports throughout the year.
Welcome Week is the official kick-off to the academic year. There are many events and activities planned during the week to help students meet new friends and get engaged.
